Physiotherapy Specialist Referrals
All registered medical and health professionals can refer patients for a second opinion on diagnosis, treatment or rehabilitation. The referrer is always welcome to attend with the patient or to join by zoom if you are unable to attend in person. Please let the receptionist know when you send the referral if you would like to do this |
ACC or Insurer/Employer cover
If the patient has an accepted ACC claim, the appointment may be fully funded. If the patient has third-party/insurance cover, we require written confirmation from the insurer/funder that funding is approved for Specilaist Physiotherapy services. If there is no funding cover, the cost of treatment will be advised at the time of booking. (Fee structure varies according to appointment type and the extent of reporting required).
Specialist Referral Criteria
In order to meet the criteria for Specilaist Physiotherapy appointments, the person must have a complex condition, or have already trialled treatment elsewhere. This is to ensure that best use is made of Specialist Physiotherapy appointments and to keep the waiting time for appointments to a minimum.
Telehealth Appointments
Telehealth video consultations (zoom) are available for those who live in remote areas or are unable to attend in person. This works best when the patient can be in the clinic with the local physiotherapist at the same time (if available).
If you are a physiotherapist who is unable to attend the appointment with the patient in person, we can also arrange for you to join via zoom. Please let us know if you would like to do this when you send the referral.
To send a referral
Send us a referral via one of the following pathways:
Please include relevant clinical details and treatments provided to date. Send your referral to admin@advancephysiotherapy.co.nz. The referral will be processed (approx 7-10 days) and the patient will be contacted to arrange an appointment.
About the appointment
Initial consultations will take one hour. A full report detailing clinical findings, diagnosis and recommended treatment plan will be provided to the referrer within 7 days. Referrers are welcome and are encouraged to attend the appointment with the patient where possible.
Follow-up appointments
Generally follow-up treatments are continued under general scope physiotherapy care with the patients' physiotherapist unless more clinical or diagnostic information is needed before confirming the treatment plan. If the patient does not have a physiotherapist we can help link the patient with a suitable physiotherapist in their area.
